Yay. Friday is a state holiday in Hawaii. Hopefully the next time you hear from me, I’ll have completed my move and I’ll be back in your lives, commenting on your food choices and childhood memories once again. And sharing my own.

Not until I already wrote the questions and floated my pointer over the publish button did I remember how a year ago, we commemorated and examined the previous twelve months, and I took a few moments to re-read all your responses. I wonder if March will always mean this for some of us.

  1. In what way have these past two years made you better?
  2. In what way have these past two years made you worse?
  3. In the first six months of the pandemic, what was your most effective form of escapism?
  4. What remains part of your life from those first six months?
  5. What do you envision for yourself in the next year, and how are you feeling about it?

Thanks for participating. Have a wonderful, safe, peaceful weekend.

Friday 5 for March 18: Take me to the old playground

Sorry these questions are up so late. Time seems to be a complete blur these days.

  1. When did you most recently swing on a swing?
  2. On what issue have you teeter-tottered?
  3. How close is your residence to a park, and when did you last visit?
  4. How capable are you with a charcoal grill?
  5. With what are you playing hide-and-seek?

I never realized until just now that most playground equipment is metaphorically the same, and therefore difficult to write questions about. How is your life like a swing? How is your life like a merry-go-round? How is your life like a teeter-totter? How is your life like a spring rider? They are the same question!

Thanks for participating, and have a lovely, wonderful, peaceful, safe weekend.

With apologies to our non-US participants AND our non-elderly participants!

  1. How did you have it your way this week?
  2. Where do you want to go today?
  3. How have you recently taken a licking but kept on ticking?
  4. In what manner are you thinking different(ly) these days?
  5. This weekend, how will you indulge because you’re worth it?

Better judgment prevailed and I did not ask what comes between you and your Calvins, but if you’d like to volunteer…

Thanks for participating! Have a wonderful, safe weekend, and just do it!

I’ve been a bit scarce online lately because I’m moving out of the house I’ve rented for 23 years and it’s stressful as heck. I want you to know I’m reading—and loving—your responses these past few weeks! They are a balm on my troubled heart! 🖤 I thank you for this.

  1. In your adult life, how have people tried to bully you, and how have you responded?
  2. What’s your favorite shade of blue?
  3. What’s a good song with ”yellow” in its lyrics or title?
  4. When have you recently witnessed extraordinary kindness?
  5. What’s a good movie about personal strength in the face of overwhelming odds?

Thanks for participating. Have a wonderful, peaceful, safe weekend. And hey—let’s be careful out there.

Friday 5 for February 18: You are known

Aloha Tower

A regular feature on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert is a fun set of questions called the Colbert Questionert, the answers to which, the host claims, reveal who a person truly is. Search YouTube for “colbert questionert” and you’ll find a bunch of fun interviews, like this one with Meryl Streep.

Although many of the questions have appeared multiple times in memes through the years, it’ll be fun to answer them in this arrangement. Conveniently, there are (supposedly) fifteen questions, so they break up evenly for our purposes. Here are the final 5(ish)!

I apologize for last week’s sloppiness. The repeat question wasn’t a repeat—it was my not typing “least favorite smell” instead of “favorite smell.” I was out for a late night walk when I realized I hadn’t yet posted the week’s questions, so I was typing them as I walked. I checked my work multiple times, too! I kept screwing up the link to the Tom Hanks video. Yet I still missed that word least and I misspelled Friday!

I am again out late walking, but I’m taking a breather at the base of Aloha Tower, so I can focus only on completing this task carefully. I’ll probably still mess it up!

I’m adding last week’s messed-up question to this week’s questions.

Bonus complication: I count six remaining questions, not five! I’m wondering if the two smell questions are part of the same question, but sometimes Colbert doesn’t ask the least favorite one. It’s a mystery!

  1. What is your least favorite smell?
  2. Cats or dogs?
  3. You only get one song to listen to for the rest of your life. What is it?
  4. What number is Stephen Colbert thinking of?
  5. Flat or sparkling?
  6. What is the most-used app on your phone?
  7. Describe the rest of your life in five words.

Thanks for participating! Have a wonderful, safe weekend! I hope when I die I get to keep reading your responses to other weekly memes!
