I came up with this week’s questions by typing the 5 Ws, one at a time, into Google and letting it suggest something interesting (or at least not a yes-no question). I’ve put the incomplete part of each query in bold you so you can see what I had to do to get the question. In four cases I changed the question’s point of view so [you] is the subject and not [I] or [we]. This may be a flop but I thought it was an interesting concept.

  1. Who do you look like?
  2. What bit you?
  3. When are you due?
  4. Where have all the flowers gone?
  5. Why don’t you?

Thanks for participating, and have a peaceful weekend. Six more days ’til the NFL season begins! Go Raiders!

Friday 5 for August 9: Scattergories, Part 9!

This week’s 5 is inspired by the party game Scattergories, in which players have to think of items, all beginning with the same letter, in several categories. For example, if the die is rolled and shows the letter F, players might have to name a soft drink, a farm animal, a river, and a U.S. President, all beginning with F. Valid answers might be Fanta, fox hound, Fling (Georgia), and Fillmore.

First, go to this nifty online random-letter generator. Set the “number of random letter sequences to generate” to 1. Set the “length of each random letter sequence” to 1. Leave the “letters to choose from” how it is and click the button. You’ll get a rather non-dramatic one letter. Use that letter to begin all your answers to the 5 questions below. If you’d like to avoid difficult letters, feel free to change the “letters to choose from” list. I’ll only judge you a little bit. 🙂

Alternately, if you find that boring, you could set the “length of each random letter sequence” to 5, thereby giving you five letters, a different one for each question.

Please answer these questions with an answer whose initial is the letter you rolled!

  1. What beverage do you enjoy but seldom have?
  2. What’s better now than when you were a kid?
  3. Who makes you happy?
  4. Where do you go when you want to indulge?
  5. Where’s a comfy place to sit?

Scattergories have to be next week: sorry! I’m doing this on my phone and I need my computer to do the Scattergories.

I’m posting more than five questions because I think most of these aren’t particularly provocative. And because I think people might shy away from a certain one. Pick any five, and as always, just have fun!
